Join us in the Secret Garden for a two-hour Bird Ringing demonstration at Careys.

From 7am - 9am, observe our experienced team as they carefully handle, weigh, and ring wild birds, revealing the remarkable details of these creatures up close.

Late Summer and Autumn is prime time for migration, with a whole suite of songbirds heading south to warmer wintering grounds! Each Autumn we catch, identify, ring and take measurements of these birds under licence to gather important data on these birds. This impressive influx of passage migrants can create identification headaches when out and about, but this unique event offers the perfect opportunity to go through their key ID features up close and explain how to quickly recognise each species in the field. We'll talk all through the ringing process, ageing and sexing of these Autumn migrants, all while hopefully showing you birds in the hand close-up.

These events are run on a first come first serve basis, so please ensure to book tickets as there are a limited number of spaces available. Your ticket includes the Bird Ringing Workshop, Parking and access to the walled Gardens to enjoy at your leisure afterwards.

What to bring
The Bird Ringing Demo will take place outdoors in an area outside of the Walled Garden so please dress suitably for the weather conditions. Please note that the event is dependent on the weather conditions for the welfare of the birds.
